Rep. Lynn Rivers of Michigan.
Stuart, also an attorney, is a busi-

— Shelley Simpson
A reader who requests her name
not be used, writes ... "Among the
many Chinese restaurants in our area,
there is one that should not be over-
looked," she says. "Located off the
beaten path in a strip mall, the
Empire Dynasty on W. Nine Mile
Road, just west of Middlebelt, is a
jewel," writes the reader.
WHEN HE WAS recently
installed, Irwin Waldman became the
10th Grand Chancellor for the State
of Michigan in the great 104-year-old
Knights of Pythias, Detroit Lodge
No. 55 annals.
Detroit Lodge No. 55 has always
been a predominantly Jewish group
in the Knights of Pythias domain ...
and years back conquered anti-
Semitic adversities to become a high-
ly honored group ... When it first got
its charter, there were only about 15
members ... which subsequently grew
to over 4,000 when meeting on John
R and Erskine ... Today, under the
leadership of Chancellor Commander
Lou Gold, its members carry on the
very rich history.
A banquet honoring Irwin will be
held, Sat., Oct. 16, at the Furniture
Club on Swanson in Southfield.
I USED TO enjoy the crab cakes
at Haussner's whenever in Baltimore
... And was among the many so sorry
to see the 73-year restaurant institu-
tion close this past Oct. 1.
