space ... with coloring tones of purple
and gold.
Both osterias have wooden floors.
The Andiamo Osteria of Royal
Oak is something this eclectic com-
munity has wanted for a long while ...
A true Italian restaurant with com-
plete veal preparations to go with its
pasta, steaks, etc.
Each are pretty much the same in
food quality and preparations as the
Andiamo Italia flagship on East 14
Mile, west of Van Dyke in Warren ...
and Andiamo West, Telegraph, south
of Maple in Bloomfield Hills ... But
with lower prices.
Both being osterias, customers can
expect to see casual- garbed folks
mingling with others who prefer a
more dressed-up look ... They seem to
be Joe's alternative to his higher ticket
Andiamo West, Bloomfield Hills; and
Andiamo Italia, Warren, operations ...
without the long lines and wait, too.
What's next for Joe Vicari? ... No. 7
will soon be an Andiamo Pizza Pie
casual restaurant in Clinton Township
... serving pizza, pasta, veal, chicken,
etc. ... After that? ... More surprises.
HE HAS MELLOWED a bit ...
but hard-working comic wit, Don
Rickles, still puts on a terrific show
that has people laughing and applaud-
ing with continuous enthusiasm.
Rickles was here recently for two
nights at Andiamo Italia :Celebrity
Showroom in Warren ... and wowed
the 700 or so who came to see him.
On opening night, when not cut-
ting up, his serious asides from the
stage were to thank Joe Nederlander
for the wonderful help Joey and the
Nederlanders have been to him ...
And to - tell. Pistons owner, Bill
Davidson, how much of a basketball
fan he is ... Joey and Bill were at the
same table with David and Doreen
Hermelin, Graham and Sally Orley,
Joe and Sue Orley, Paul Borman, and
Walter and Marilyn Walpin.
Rickles also recognized Chuck
Daley, former Pistons coach, there
with wife, Terry; former Detroit Lions
linebacker, coach and football hall of
famer Joe Schmidt; and Ron Kramer,
former Green Bay Packer all-pro end.
Rickles is used to the warm and
gracious laughter ... and as usual
appreciated his audience this evening
... Marty Goldman, Dick Scott, Linda
and Barry Solomon, Itzie and Vivian
Lieberman (son of former Raleigh
House catering genius, Sammy and
Ida Lieberman) and so many others.
People are already gobbling up
tickets for Paul Anka here in
November.
