Shari Benkoff, Shoshanna BBG (1980-84), has been appointed Co-Chair of
B'nai B'rith International's Young Leadership Action Network (YLAN). YLAN
helps recruit and train B'nai B'rith leaders and members under the age of 40.
Sheri is a past Michigan BBG N'siah.
Shari Katz, Achayot, Chaverot, and Ahavah BBG's (1993-98), served last
summer as a White House intern in Washington, D.C. Leslie Salba, Disraeli BBG
(1994-98) and Miriam Jaffa, Ahavah BBG (1994-98), served as Congressional
interns in the office of Senator Carl Levin. Leslie and Shari are past Michigan
BBG N'siot.
Robyn Winograd, Yachad BBG, Windsor (1984-88), is the new Coordinator
of Social Services for the Windsor Jewish Federation. She is responsible for
serving senior citizens, both at the I.L. Peretz House and in the community.
Jay Armeland, Herz' AZA, Windsor (1970-75), has been elected to serve as
2nd Vice-President of the Windsor Jewish Federation.
Gloria Ellis, past Michigan BBYO Board Chairperson, has recently been hired
as Director of the Institute for Retired Professionals at the Jewish Community
Center.
Lynne (Smokier) Master, Maxman BBG (1954-57), owner/director of the
Learning Disabilities Clinic Inc. in Oak Park and Bloomfield Hills, has become
president-elect of the Association of Educators in Private Practice. Lynn is also a
past advisor of Szold and Erani BBG's.
Zoe Klein, Yachad BBG, Windsor (1984-88), is now working as the Outreach
and Program Supervisor at the Canada Israel Experience Centre in Toronto. Zoe
was stationed in Israel this summer supervising the start for all the Centre's groups
touring the country.
Audrey (Levine) Hershkovitz, Rishonah BBG (1978-82), is living in Roswell,
Georgia, and works as a Team Leader for American Express Corporate Services.
Eric Roth, Jolson AZA (1989-93), is working as a systems engineer at Hughes
Space and Communications in El Segundo, California. The company makes
space satellites.
Amy Sonne, Radner BBG (1988-92), works as a professional dancer in New
York and was recently seen at the Fox Theatre in Detroit in the touring
production of "Rugrats - A Live Adventure."
JoAnne (Sternberg) Levy, Strosberg BBG, Winclsor (1963-67), serves as the
Temple Administrator of Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy. She is also a past
president of the congregation.
Gail (Conn) Jutkowitz, Hatikvah BBG, Flint (1964-66), teaches at Oak Ridge
Elementary School in Royal Oak.
Margo (Berman) Lazar, Disraeli BBG (1987-91), works as the Community
Connection Coordinator of Pro-Detroit, a program sponsored by the Detroit
Jewish Federation.
Ethan Stettner, Samson AZA (1990-94), works for the HBOC Medical
Software Company in Atlanta, Georgia, and has recently become an advisor to
an AZA chapter there.
Dr. Eric Mintz, Chalutzim AZA (1986-90), recently opened Mintz Family
Chiropractic in Keego Harbor. Eric graduated from Life Chiropractic College in
Marietta, Georgia. Eric is a former Michigan Region AZA Aleph Mazkir.
Owen Alterman, Kishon AZA (1991-95), recently graduated from Princeton
University with a major in Near Eastern Studies. Owen has been accepted to
Harvard Law School but has chosen to defer his acceptance in favor of serving in
the Peace Corps for the next two years. He will be stationed in Romania where he
will be teaching English. Owen is a former Michigan Region AZA Aleph Godol.
David Schechter, Brandeis AZA (1985-88), \von a first-place award in
investigative reporting from the Missouri Broadcasters Association. David is a
reporter with WDAF-TV Fox 4 in Kansas City. His report focused on how some
retailers are limiting the sale of over-the-counter cold pills, which can be used to
make illegal drugs.
Ilyse Broder, Shira BBG (1991-95), received a merit scholarship to attend the
Northwestern University Law School in Chicago. She graduated with distinction
from the University of Michigan, where she majored in sociology.
Cheryl (Velick) Fellows, Na'im BBG (1976-80), recently served as the
Chairperson of the Boulder (Colorado) Jewish Festival. Cheryl is a past District 6
BBG N'siah.
Sharon (Levine) Alterman, Brice BBG (1955-59), who served from 1962-70 as
the advisor to Julie Gottlieb BBG, was recently installed as President of
Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak Park.
Barry L. Howard, Akiba AZA (1963-66), who serves as Chief Judge Pro
Tempore of the Oakland County Circuit Court, was elected as President of the
Michigan Judges Association. His term commences in January 2000.
Joel M. Colman, former Michigan BBYO Assistant Director(1985-87), has
moved from Temple B'rith Kodesh in Rochester, New York, to become the
cantor at Temple Sinai in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Jason Porth, Jolson AZA (1987-92), graduated last spring from Northeastern
University Law School in Boston, and together with his wife Abby, a recent MSW
graduate from Brandeis University, now makes his home in San Bruno, California.
Jason is a past Michigan Region AZA Aleph Godol and Grand Aleph Godol.
Cydney Goldberg, Zahav BBG (1993-97), is one of six students selected from
Boston University to study marketing and public relations this semester at
Oxford University in England. This past summer she held an internship at NBC
in Los Angeles.
