Kickoff Dance Cancelled?!

VIP Leadership Camp

VIP Leadership Camp is a learning and bonding program for chapter presidents in
August that annually begins their program year responsibilities. During the six
days at the Milan Conference Centre in Belle River, Ontario, chapter presidents
learn about their roles and duties, improve their leadership skills, and create
relationships that make the program year run more smoothly. They are joined at
the program by the Regional AZA and BBG Presidents and the Regional staff.

Allison Buchman and Lisa Cutler, Michigan
BBYO Associate Directors; Oren Goldenberg,
Sammy AZA; Brian Lubaway, Greenberg AZA;
Dan Horwitz, Shapiro AZA; Micah Herman,
Posen AZA; Brad Belsky, Strauss AZA; Mike
Kessler, Herzl AZA (Windsor); Jordan
Urnovitz, Marx AZA; Adam Casini, Kishon
AZA; and Lowell Weiss, Jolson AZA.

That's right! After more than 30 years, Michigan
BBYO's annual Kickoff Dance is no more. Times
change and so must BBYO. With the advent a few
years ago of Early Chapter Re-Registration in the
spring, most of the returning AZA and BBG mem-
bers re-register at that time. Therefore, one of the
main reasons for sponsoring the incentive of a
FREE Kickoff Dance no longer exists. Was the
decision hard to make? What about "tradition"?
What do we do now? Well, read on.

"Kickoff to Y2K" a huge
success at Cedar Point!

1 Paper Plate Awards are always a big
part of any Milan Conference Centre
experience, and it was no different at
the recent VIP Leadership Camp, held
Aug. 22-27. Paper Plate Awards are a
way that BBYOers show each other that
their individuality has been noted and
accepted and a way to have some fun.

Michigan 513Y0ers at Summer Programs

That's right! On Sunday, August 29 - the last
day before school began for the majority of
Michigan Region - three busloads containing 110
excited BBYOers left the West Bloomfield JCC at
7:00 a.m. aimed at a day of spirit and fun at Cedar
Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. And
they didn't leave empty-handed! Munching on a
breakfast of bagels and juice and wearing their
new "BBYO Kickoff to Y2K" t-shirts, AZA's and
BBG's renewed friendships, talked about their
summers, and began to build the bonds that will
be so important in making the 1999-2000 pro-
gram year a success. BBYO songs and cheers
were being taught and sung; Regional chairpeople
were working the aisles, getting members signed
up to Fall Conclave and Regional Convention
committees; and Regional Execs were schmooz-
ing with both the old members and new who
turned out for the new "tradition." Kickoff was
once again a "blast" for all involved!
