Tanach is another name
for Hebrew Bible. The
word is an acronym of
Torah (Five Books of Moses),
Neviim (Prophets) and Ketuvim
(Writings). You might think God's
name would be everywhere here,
but search as you might, you'll
never find it in either Songs of
Songs or Esther.

Which part of the
Tanach has the most sec-
tions?
The answer is Neviim, with 21
sections: Joshua, Judges, 1
Samuel, II Samuel, I Kings, II
Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel,
Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah,
Jonah, Micah, Nahum,
Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai,
Zechariah and Malachi.
In second place is Ketuvim, with
1.3: Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song
of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations,
Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra,
Nehemiah, I Chronicles and II
Chronicles.
In third place is the Torah, with
five: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,
Numbers and Deuteronomy.

Which of the five books
in the Torah is longest?
Genesis, followed by
Numbers, Exodus, Deuteronomy
and Leviticus.

Both the longest and the shortest
chapters in the Torah
are in Psalms. They are
Psalm 117 (shortest)
anc Psalm 119
(longest).

Every letter of the
Hebrew alphabet can be
found in Esther 3:13.

Which Hebrew letter
appears most in the
Torah? That honor falls to
the yud, which is written 31,530
times. The letter that appears least
is the final peh, with 834.

The Tanach lists seven
different names for God
which, once written, are
never to be erased or thrown
away (or in general treated with
disrespect), or sometimes even
uttered.
The former explains why some
people write G-d, though this is
not, of course, one of the seven
names. Remember: the Torah was
not written in English.
While some of God's names
may be spoken, it is not to be
done outside the proper context,
such as prayer. This is why you'll
often hear people say EloKim.
Each name is said to represent an
aspect of God: his power or com-
passion, for example.

There are 5,845 verses
in the Torah. II

Ako,

Many Jewish texts
emphasize the "femi-
nine" nature of the
Torah, describing it as a daughter
and a bride (with God as father).
This is the reason that the person
who reads the last verse of
Deuteronomy on Simchat Torah is
called the chatan Torah, or
"bridegroom of the Torah."
