There were plenty of ex-Detroiters
to be seen around Las Vegas ... The
owners of Mr. Slacks were Herb
"Whitey" Rubin and Jerry Rubin ...
Driving a cab was Morrie "Big Fish"
Bromberg ... Sid Hudson (Hodash)
left Detroit to become a Las Vegas fix-
ture ... His Hudson Cleaners had 40
people working and servicing 90% of
the hotels on the strip ... Whenever
election time came around, Sid was
resigned to the fact that he would be
asked to run for mayor or something.
Every time I went to visit Las
Vegas, it was always a merry-go-
round of great food and fun ...
thanks to the ex-Detroiters, who
made sure that every minute I spent
there would be filled with complete
enjoyment.
Try it today! Go to
Rodney Dangerfield recalled that his
first engagement as a standup comic
was in a place so far out in the woods,
his act was reviewed in Field and
Stream ... Opening night the boss said,
"Kid, I want to talk to you in the base-
ment" ... Rod asked a waiter, "Did the
boss ever summon YOU to the base-
ment?" ... "Yes," was the answer, "it was
the night he made me a waiter" ... Rod
said, "What were you before, a bus-
boy?" ... "No," said the waiter, "his
partner" ... Dangerfield claimed that
the neighborhood in which he matured
was so tough that a sign in the post
office read, "$100 reward for informa-
tion leading to the arrest of anybody"
... "Further proof?" asked Rod ... "They
raffled off a police radio car — with
two cops still sitting in it." ri
