There's a lot of information here,
but the site's organization is haphazard
and cluttered. There's a search engine
that lets you zero in on a particular
city or type of organization, but you
can't search by name. If you're looking
for local affiliates of the American
Jewish Congress, for example, lots of
luck.
The listings are also less than corn-
prehensive. The search engine turned
up only 13 Jewish Federations in this
country.
Still, the Global Jewish Directory is
a resource that could become much
more useful with a little slicker orga-
nization and a better search engine.

Seen On The Net:

ar out: theJewish band Shlock Rock, which promotes Jewish
continuity through music and parody, has a cool new Web site.
Here you can learn
• xt
about such classics
as "Woodshlock" and "Bring
Back that Shabbos Feeling."
Alas, you can only hear
snippets from a handful of
their songs via Real Audio.
Yeah, it's a commercial site
designed to sell tapes and
CDs, but the design is attrac-
Contact
tive and content punchy.
Give these guys a look.

organizations
can you name?
If it's less than
2,567, you may wish to
bookmark the Global
Jewish Directory Web site
for future reference.
The strength of this site
is its international slant.
You can browse organiza-
tions by country, from Angola to
Yugoslavia, with stops in between.
Want to find where Jews hang out
in Ukraine or Guatemala?
This is the place.
There are 207 pages of listings for
the United States — mostly syna-
gogues, not organizations, but still a
useful listing. There's information
about each: name, address, phone
number, Web site and the like.
Less useful are the photo galleries
of famous synagogues and rabbis. The
pictures are too small and there isn't
enough information about what you're
viewing.
The Jewish directory folks also sell
data-based versions of the information
to legitimate Jewish organizations.
