• Put-In-Bay is probably the most
popular one-day trip that fresh-water
faring Detroiters make each year. Billed
as a sort of Mackinac Island of Ohio,
the summer island resort is located in
western Lake Erie, approximately a
four- to five-hour one-way journey by
power boat from Detroit.
The island offers docking at three
public locations, including Oak Point
Park, as well as at private marinas lining
the shore. Once on the island, visitors
can rake in Perry's Victory and
International Peace Memorial,
Kimberly's Carousel and a bird museum,
and ti parasailing. A ferry ride trans-
ports visitors to Lonz Winery or Cedar
Point Amusement Park. Or rent bikes
or a golf cart and rake in the varied din-
ing choices and shopping adventures.
Many families travel ro the island in
the morning, stay for lunch and the
early afternoon, load up on food for
dinner and head back in the late after-
noon, making the trip in a total of
about 12 hours. Overnight accommoda-
tions, however, are available.
