n the movie Instinct, opening
nationwide in theaters today,
Anthony Hopkins plays a dis-

behaves like an untamed animal and
winds up jailed on charges of murder.
Sound familiar?
Though the scenario bears an
uncanny resemblance to another

Hopkins thriller = Silence of the
Lambs — director Jon Turteltaub isn't
worried about the inevitable compar-
isons. "It's certainly not a horror film,
[though] there are elements of a sus-
pense thriller," he notes. "There isn't a
genre that explains what this film is."
Indeed, while Hopkins' characters
in both films may appear similar, they
are in fact worlds apart. While Lambs'
Dr. Hannibal Lecter was a violent yet
brilliant psychopath, Instinct's Dr.
Ethan Powell is a misunderstood
scholar who turns his back on his
career and his family to become part
of his own experiment.
