Justin Adam Benson

mitzvah at Temple
Israel on Saturday,
June 5. He is the son
of Lori and Dr. Kim
Benson, brother of
Steven and grand-
child of Bernice and
Albert Organek and Esther Benson. He
is also the grandson of the late Edward
Benson.
Among his mitzvah projects, he
contributed to the American Heart
Association in memory of his grandfa-
ther, volunteered at the West
Bloomfield Library and participated
in the Temple Israel Mitzvah Mania.
A West Bloomfield Abbott School
honor student, Justin plays the trom-
bone in the school band and likes
golf, soccer, water-and downhill ski-
ing and acting in school plays.
Talia Simone Ran will celebrate her bat
mitzvah at Temple Israel on Saturday,
June 5. She is [L.:

of Tamar and Yoni
and grandchild of
Helen and Victor
Moss and Sara Ran.
Soon to celebrate her
100th birthday is
excited great-grand-
mother Ethel Lurie. Talia is also the
granddaughter of the late Shimon Ran.
Her most meaningful mitzvah project
was volunteering at Yad Ezra; she also
collected clothing to give to the home-
less. Attending Walnut Creek Middle
School in Walled Lake, Talia enjoys
playing basketball, camping, writing
short stories and searching the Internet.
Andrew Benjamin Cherney will cele-
brate his bar mitzvah on Saturday, June
5, at Havdala services at Temple Israel.
He is the son of Mindy and Jack
Cherney, brother of
Hillary and grandson
of Marilyn Chernev.
He is also the grand-
child of the late Fred
Chernev and the late
Helen and Judge
Joseph Linden.
His most mean-
ingful mitzvah project
was donating to the ALS Foundation in
memory of his grandfather; he also vol-
unteered at Temple Israel's pre-school
camp and assisted at the Gleaners Food
Bank. A student at West Hills Middle
School in Bloomfield Hills, Andrew is
interested in hockey and wrestling.

Sean Aaron Mutchnick will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday,
June 5, at Young Israel of West
Bloomfield. He is the son of Renee and
Milt Mutchnick and
the brother of Ian,
Aric, Nathan and
Rachel.
Sean is an honor
student at Hillel Day
School in
Farmington Hills.
He enjoys playing
basketball, drawing
and camping.
Sean's ongoing mitzvah commitments
include participating in JARC home Niis-
its, planting flowers at a JARC home
and assisting with Arbor Day activities
at Young Israel of West Bloomfield.
Dana Susan Applebaum was called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
May 22, at Temple Emanu-El. She is
the daughter of Beth and Jeffrey
Applebaum and the
sister of Barbara
Applebaum. Proud
grandparents are

Applebaum and Ina
and Louis Egnater.
Dana is an honor
student at Norup
Middle School in
Oak Park. She was on the volleyball and
basketball teams this year and enjoys
diving and softball. For her mitzvah pro-
jects, Dana volunteered with the
Emanu-El social action committee and
made food for several shelters. She ush-
ered at services and helped collect food
for Yad Ezra on Yom Kippur. She also
organized a bottle drive with her sister
Barbara to raise money for refugees from
Kosovo.
Zachary Scott Goodman of Farmington

Saturday, June 5. He
is the son of Harriet
and Walter
Goodman, brother
of Danielle and
Evan. Proud grand-

Zachary is a student at Warner
Middle School in Farmington Hills. He
enjoys music, tennis, swimming, hockey
and golf. Mitzvah projects included vol-
unteering at Yad Ezra and helping out
with the first grade at Shaarey Zedek.

of Apollo Beach, Fla.
Miss Lawson earned a bachelor's
degree in criminal justice at Wayne
State University. She is employed at
the Southfield Police Department.
Mr. Vida is working on his bache-
lor's degree in criminal justice at
Wayne State University. He is
employed with the Clawson Police
Department.

Debra earned a bachelor of arts
degree in mathematics and business
from Michigan State University. She
recently received a master's degree in

State University. She is employed as a
teacher and coach at Power Middle

from Michigan State University. He is
completing his master's degree in cur-
riculum and teaching from Michigan
State University. He is employed as a
