the Albanian Kosovars were reported
as instigating Holocaust-like activity,
long before they became the 1999
symbol of Holocaust victimhood. The
Times reported way back then, "Slavic
Orthodox churches have been
attacked and flags have been torn
down. Wells have been poisoned and
crops burned. Slavic boys have been
knifed, and some young ethnic Alba-
nians have been told by their elders to
rape Serbian girls."
If the Serbs respond in kind, does
that make anyone in this story anal-
ogous to the Jews of the Shoah?
Before the Jewish civilians were put
on trains, did they poison wells and
rape their enemies, as did the Koso-
var civilians?
The historical fact of Jews in box-
cars happened in 1940 when trains
were bound for genocide and
Auschwitz — a place that the Kosovar
story, for all its evil, doesn't go.

Israeli Visitor
Seeks Family

I am writing this in behalf of an Israeli
friend who will be visiting the states in
June and is looking for relatives. His
name is Uri Raz, and he is looking for
the children of his father's brother,
whose name was Emanuel Rice and
his wife's name was Fania.
My friend is hoping to contact
their sons, Robert, Howard and Henry
(or Irving?). These men were born in
Detroit and would be between 60 and
70 years of age.
Any information would be appreci-
ated.

We would like to thank the Jewish
News, writer Suzanne Chessler and the
Birmingham-area Jewish community
for their support at the Birmingham
Fine Art Festival May 8-9.
We are extremely grateful for the
article Suzanne Chessler wrote in your
recent issue ("Let The Art Fairs Begin"
May 7). As clay artists who create con-
temporary Judaica, we appreciate the
efforts you made to educate the local
community about our work and our

participation in the show.
We want you to know that many,
many people mentioned the article to
us; several brought their copy to the
show and both new and previous cus-
tomers commented that they enjoyed
reading the article and learning more
about us.
We also would like to thank the
local Jewish community for their con-
tinued support. Your appreciation of r-
our work makes us look forward to
our long trek from Florida.

If. ..

If you would listen
then you would hear
how I am crying for help
and crying from fear.
If you would understand
all that I have to say,
I could be like your children,
be free every day.
If you only knew
how hard it is to survive,
I could live through this war
and my family could thrive.
If you could only take my place,
come here and live like me,
you, too, would understand
how important it is to be free.
