The Times reported way back then, "Slavic Orthodox churches have been attacked and flags have been torn down. Wells have been poisoned and crops burned. Slavic boys have been knifed, and some young ethnic Alba- nians have been told by their elders to rape Serbian girls." If the Serbs respond in kind, does that make anyone in this story anal- ogous to the Jews of the Shoah? Before the Jewish civilians were put on trains, did they poison wells and rape their enemies, as did the Koso- var civilians? The historical fact of Jews in box- cars happened in 1940 when trains were bound for genocide and Auschwitz — a place that the Kosovar story, for all its evil, doesn't go. Hymie Cutler, director Michigan Committee for a Safe Israel Detroit Israeli Visitor Seeks Family I am writing this in behalf of an Israeli friend who will be visiting the states in June and is looking for relatives. His name is Uri Raz, and he is looking for the children of his father's brother, whose name was Emanuel Rice and his wife's name was Fania. My friend is hoping to contact their sons, Robert, Howard and Henry (or Irving?). These men were born in Detroit and would be between 60 and 70 years of age. Any information would be appreci- ated. Beverly W. Apel, president Greater Detroit Hadassah West Bloomfield If. .. If you would listen then you would hear how I am crying for help and crying from fear. If you would understand all that I have to say, I could be like your children, be free every day. If you only knew how hard it is to survive, I could live through this war and my family could thrive. If you could only take my place, come here and live like me, you, too, would understand how important it is to be free. Danielle Borovoy, 12 Farmington Hills • 5/14 1999 24
