S tact' Aronoff, a graduate of the University of
Michigan with a bachelor of fine arts degree
in theater performance, is currently working
on her master of business administration
degree at Wayne State University with a concentra-
tion in entrepreneurship.
She manages her family's business, the Art Show
Gallery, in Oakland Mall. The 24-year-old is an
accomplished actress. She is smart, attractive, viva-
cious, ambitious ... and is competing in the Miss
Michigan/USA pageant.
Many believe the stereotype that beauty queens
are all looks and no substance. Aronoff says she used
to think the same thing. These days, she and many
of the women she is competing against are dispelling
that notion.
"I would watch beauty pageants as a little girl,"
Aronoff explains. "I used to think they were cheesy,

that the only people
who could compete
had to be models.
But it was the
cable television
channel E! that
helped to change
Aronoff's mind.
"One evening I was
watching a program
on E! called Miss
USA: Behind the
Scenes and I was just
mesmerized by [con-
testant] Shauna
Gambill. She
reminded me of me!"
The program dis-
cussed life in the Miss USA pageant and focused on
Gambill, who wound up being the first runner-up.
