She manages her family's business, the Art Show Gallery, in Oakland Mall. The 24-year-old is an accomplished actress. She is smart, attractive, viva- cious, ambitious ... and is competing in the Miss Michigan/USA pageant. Many believe the stereotype that beauty queens are all looks and no substance. "I would watch beauty pageants as a little girl," Aronoff explains. "I used to think they were cheesy, 5 / 14 1999 that the only people who could compete had to be models. But it was the cable television channel E! that helped to change Aronoff's mind. "One evening I was watching a program on E! called Miss USA: Behind the Scenes and I was just mesmerized by [con- testant] Shauna Gambill. She reminded me of me!" The program dis- cussed life in the Miss USA pageant and focused on Gambill, who wound up being the first runner-up. The program interviewed Gambill after the pageant • k‘4"*..; ,.., Z, Vr,
