Jake Charles Olsman of Huntington
Woods will celebrate his bar mitzvah
on Saturday, May 1,
at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
Participating in the
ceremony will be
Jake's parents, Barbara
and Jules Olsman,
and his sister Carly.
Also participating will
be Jake's grandparents Marjorie and
Harold Grossman of Huntington
Woods and his uncles Gary Grossman
and David Grossman of Oak Park.
Jake is also the grandson of the late
Mollie and Charles Olsman. He is the
great-grandson of Sophie Feldman and
Minnie Grossman and the late Samuel
Feldman and Hyman Grossman.
For one of his mitzvah projects,
Jake volunteered at Shaarey Zedek's
floor hockey class for young chil-
dren. Jake is a seventh grader at
Detroit Country Day School in
Beverly Hills and he enjoys playing
hockey, golf and reading. Jake
skates for the Michigan Predators, a
AA Pee Wee travel hockey team. A
party will be held in Jake's honor at
the Detroit Golf Club.

Stefanie Jennifer Abel Horowitz will
become a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, May 1,
at Congregation Beth
Abraham Hillel
Moses. Stefanie is the
daughter of Michelle
and Jay Abel
Horowitz and the sis-
ter of Jordan. She is
the granddaughter of
Bea and Max Horowitz and Phyllis
and Martin Abel.
Stefanie is a student at Berkshire
Middle School in Birmingham. She
enjoys ballet, skiing, snowboarding and
playing the clarinet.
Stefanie's mitzvah project included
assisting Alzheimer's patients.

Emily Leah Kimmel will become bat
mitzvah on Saturday, May 1, at
Congregation
Shaarey Zedek B'nai
Israel Center. Emily
is the daughter of
Laurie and Robert
Kimmel and the sis-
ter of Joshua. Proud
grandparents are
Ruth and Morris
Kimmel and Ted
Berman. She is also the granddaugh-
ter of the late Ethel Berman.
Emily attends Hillel Day School in
Farmington Hills. Her mitzvah project,
organized through the Jewish
Community Chaplaincy Program,
involves visiting Jewish residents in non-
Jewish nursing homes to insure that they
know that they are not forgotten by the
Jewish community.
Emily enjoys volleyball, skiing
and crafts.

Elise Jennifer Landa celebrated her bat
mitzvah on Saturday, April 17, with
Workmen's
Circle/Arbeter Ring at
the DoubleTree Hotel
in Southfield.
Friends and family
joined Elise, her par-
ents, Terry and Kenny
Landa, and her broth-
er Jeremy at the sim-
cha. Elise is the grand-
daughter of George and Lilli Landa and
Robert and Helen Haber.
In honor of Elise, shule students per-
formed as a chorus, led by Esther
Freeman. Shule director Jan Adler offici-
ated at the event and Dr. Norma Shifrin
brought greetings from Workmen's
Circle in Oak Park and nationally.
The title of Elise's bat mitzvah pre-
sentation was "The History of the
Maccabi Movement and My Personal
Experience Participating in the Maccabi
Games." For the Yiddish component of
her presentation, Elise gave an overview
in Yiddish and English of the origins cf
the Yiddish language.
Elise is a seventh grader at Norup
Middle School in Oak Park. Her
interests include swimming, soccer,
horseback riding and drawing. Her
mitzvah projects included volunteer-
ing her time to teach swimming and
serve as a junior lifeguard at the
Huntington Woods pool; she donat-
ed a full day working at a swim meet
for her team. She also sang with
other students at the Prentis and
Teitel Jewish Apartments in Oak
Park. The food basket centerpieces
from Elise's celebration were donatr
ed to Yad Ezra.
