Temple Israel has been awarded the
1999 Fain Award from the
Commission on Social Action of
Reform Judaism of the Union of
American Hebrew Congregations. The
award is given to recognize outstanding
and innovative social action work car-
ried out by congregations.
The award was given to Temple
Israel's Family Life Center for the first
kever avot (gravesides of our ancestors)
program, where temple volunteers escort
senior adults from area facilities to visit
the graves of their loved ones on the
Sunday between Rosh Hashana and
Yom Kippur; the event is sponsored by
Ira Kaufman Chapel. This year's event /-
will be Sunday, Sept. 19.

Donor Day
Honors Leder
The Adat Shalom Sisterhood will honor
Judy Leder at its Donor Day, 10 a.m. s-\
Tuesday, May 4, at the synagogue.
Leder was president of the sisterhood
from 1988 to 1990, and she served as
Jewish education
chairman,
Jewish education
vice president
and both ad
journal treasure;‹
and editor. In
addition she has
worked as secre-
tary for the
Women's League
Judy Leder
for Conservative
Judaism-
Michigan Branch, Torah Fund vice pres-
ident and administrative vice president.
Leder served Adat Shalom, as ritual
committee chairman, 50th anniversary
commemorative journal editor and adult
study chairman. In 1984, she became a
bat mitzvah at the synagogue.
On behalf of the Jewish Theological
Seminary, Leder has coordinated public-
ity for the local Scholar-in-Residence
program. She is the professional project
coordinator for the community-wide
SAJE (Seminars for Adult Jewish
Enrichment) program.
Dr. Sonya Friedman will be the
speaker at the noon luncheon.
