Adult Education

Leave Home
With JCC Trips

Temple Kol Ami will offer two adult
education courses taught by Rabbi
Herschel Finman. The courses will
meet on Thursday evenings, April 15,
22, 29 and May 6 and 13.
The first course, meeting at 7 p.m.,
will be "Surfing the Sea of the
Talmud." The course will focus on the
development of the Talmud.
Beginning at 8 p.m., students may
study Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism.
They will examine the creation stories,
the soul and the connection to God.
There is a charge. Registration

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will sponsor
the following trips:
* Jewish Heritage Tour to
England, Ireland and Wales, June 9-
22. The tour includes London,
Windsor, Bath, Bristol, Chester,
Ludlow, Dublin and Stratford-on-
Avon. Informational meetings will
be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 18
at the D. Dan and Betty Kahn
Building of the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield, and 10
a.m. Thursday, April 22, at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Building in
Oak Park.
* Cruise Alaska June 21-28. Sail
the Norwegian Wind up the inside
passage to Glacier Bay, Juneau,
Skagway, Ketchikan and Haines. An
informational meeting will be held
at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 13 at the D.
Dan and Betty Kahn Building.
* San Francisco, Yosemite and
Lake Tahoe July 14-22. The tour
highlights San Francisco, Yosemite
National Park and Lake Tahoe.
Informational meetings will be held
2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 ,at the
D. Dan and Betty Kahn Building.
* Jewish Cultural Tour to Eastern
Europe Oct. 4-18. The trip com-
bines the culture and history of
Cracow, Warsaw, Prague, Budapest
and Vienna. An informational meet-
ing will be held 7 p.m. Monday,
April 12, at the D. Dan and Betty
Kahn Building.
* Day trips to the'opera include
Madame Butterfly 8 p.m.
Wednesday, April 21; Eugene
Onegin, 2 p.m. Sunday, May 16;
Sampson and Delilah, 1 p.m.
Thursday, June 3.
* Day trips to the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra include "The
Music of Henry Mancini,"
Thursday, May 13; "A celebration of
Americana," Thursday, June 10.
Both are coffee concerts.
* Day trips to theater happenings
include Jeckyll and Hyde Dr. Paul
reads to Royal Oak fourth graders.
at the Fisher Theater, 2 p.m. Sunday,
May 2.
* Overnight getaways include
New York City, May 18 22; Niagra-
on-the-Lake, Aug. 18-20; and
Stratford, Sept. 28-29.

Wax Museum
Comes Alive

Teachers and students of Burton
Elementary in Huntington Woods will
host a Wax Museum, 7 p.m. Tuesday,
March 23.
Included in the museum will be
movie stars, sports figures and other
important figures from yesterday and
today.

Shalom Campers
Select Campgrounds

The Shalom Campers, Michigan's first
camping club for Jewish families, has
established its 1999 camping sched-
ule.
May 14-16: Pontiac Lake
Recreation Area; Memorial Day week-
end, May 28-31: Camper's Cove,
Wheatly, Ontario, Canada; June 11-
13: Groveland Oaks, Holly; July 9-
11: Walnut Hills, Durand; Aug. 13-
15: Groveland Oaks, Holly; Sept. 24-
26: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, Holly;
Oct. 8-10: Pine Ridge, Birch Run.
The Shalom Campers welcomes
families with their own camping gear
from tents to motor homes. The
camping weekends include a Friday
evening Oneg Shabbat, a pot-luck
dinner on Saturday and a fruit or
soup-pot on Sunday. This is in addi-
tion to games for the children, songs,
games and treats around the campfire
and excursions to nearby towns.

Yad Ezra
Card Contest

Yad Ezra, Michigan's only kosher food
pantry will sponsor a city-wide greeting
card contest for children ages 5-15.
Entry forms with directions are available
at all religious schools and at Yad Ezra,
26641 Harding, Oak Park.
Entries are due April 1 and should be
left at the students' religious school or
Yad Ezra's office.
Winner will be selected in four differ-
ent age categories and their designs will
be reprinted onto greeting cards that will
be sold by Yad Ezra for the High
Holidays.

Randie B. Levin has been named direc-
tor of the Jewish Federations
Community Outreach and Education
Department.

and Agency

ate.
Prior to coming to Federation, Mrs.
Levin was director of interdisciplinary
services and program coordinator at the
Children's Aid Society.
