MetroHillel used a 3-in-1
event to spice up
a winter afternoon.
etroHillel, based at Wayne State University but
encompassing 20-somethings throughout the
Detroit area, pulled off a fun winter afternoon on
Sunday with a bowling-Whirlyball-tobogganing
party.
Some 40 particpants bowled at Langan's
bowling lanes in Farmington Hills, followed
by Whirlyball in West Bloomfield.
Jackie Topy, co-chair with Jason
Rutenberg for the event, said not even a
missing bus could dampen the first big bash
of the winter semester. When the rented bus
didn't show to take particpants between
venues, "we just carpooled," said Topy, which
forced many in the group to meet new peo-
ple.
The numbers dwindled somewhat for
tobogganing at the Fridge in Waterford. "It
was cold," she said. "We waited 30 minutes
for a 2-second ride" down the hill.
The multiple-event format was a hit, Topy
said. "Usually, with one event, people get
bored after an hour. This time, everyone
wanted to know, "What's next?'" P1
