Orchard Lake, (248) 865-0000.The inter-
esting array of Mideastern and Lebanese
dining attractions are featured along with
small individual pita breads that are served
directly from an open hearth. Many of the
standbys are together with recipes that
include favorites not gotten everywhere.
Off-premise catering is available along with
the dine-in specialties.

Star prepares both fat-free and regular
tuna and cuts its lox by hand. It also cooks
its own corned beef and pastrami, and the
seven-day operation includes a major spe-
cialty — beautiful tray catering.

WEST BLOOMFIELD

Bagel Deli, 6088 West Maple, West

ROYAL OAK

Chick-N-Ribs, 118 S.Woodward, Royal

Oak, (248) 544-1211. Much has been said
about this dine in and carry-out restau-
rant whose specialties of broasted or
barbecue chicken and barbecue ribs have
received much attention, but as regular
customers say, the proof is in the tasting.
It's open seven days, Sun.-Thurs. 11-10,
Fri. & Sat. I I-11.

SOUTHFIELD

Excalibur, 28875 Franklin Road, South-
field, (248) 358-3355.This is one of Metro-
politan Detroit's more popular dining and
dancing spots, with live entertainment
Tuesday through Saturday and a menu that
ranges from regional to continental. Cur-
rently appearing is the Billy Rose Quartet,
Tuesday through Thursdays, and The War-
ren Commission, with Suzie Marsh, Friday
and Saturday evenings. Its banquet and
convention center behind the restaurant
seats up to 400 people.

Gateway Deli, 21745 W. 11 Mile, Harvard

Row, Southfield, (248) 352-4940.Try the
veal marsala or veal parmesan at this popu-
lar delicatessen-restaurant whose gourmet
dishes are brought from owner Peter Ber-
shaj's former Larco's days.They are corn-
bined with familiar traditional homemade
Jewish dishes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, party
trays and outside catering are Gateway
Deli standouts.

Ristorante Di Modesta, 19400 North-

western Highway, Southfield, (248) 358-
0344.This fine dining stalwart, located in
the Market Street Shoppes, is noted for its
varied Italian menu that features many tra-
ditional favorites and a choice wine list. It is
also acclaimed for its outside catering
events highlighted by the same elegant cui-
sine served in the restaurant.

Star Deli, 24555 W.12 Mile Rd., South-
field, (248) 352-7377. It has been acclaimed
as one of America's finest carry-out only
delicatessens, and has the largest carry-out
deli operations in Michigan. However, you
wouldn't know it from the size. And every-
thing is homemade: tole slaw, potato salad,
chicken salad, egg salad and so much more.

Bloomfield, (248) 851-9666. Rose
Guttman, former owner of Irving's Deli-
catessen, noted many years for dining
goodness, is featured with her home-cook-
ing of traditional Jewish foods for carry-
out and eating in. Party trays have also
made Bagel Deli a big favorite, along with
its smoked fish and handcut belly lox. It is
open seven days a week.

Big Daddy's Parthenon, 6199 Orchard

Lake Road, West Bloomfield, (248) 737-
8600. Evenings are still busy ones seven
nights a week at this miniature Greek-
town favoite. Popular Greek dishes fea-
ture lamb chops, lemon chicken, award-
winning Tommy Salad and other popular
items. Private Banquet facilities next door
accommodate up to 300. Live entertain-
ment is every Thursday and Friday in the
restaurant.

New owner John Rugani, formerly of Copper Creek
Restaurant invites you to lunch and dinner at his new
venue. Always known for the freshest seafood and
