Akiva Hebrew School boy's basketball
team is off to its best start ever at 7-1.
Following a 78-69 loss to Westside
Christian in which Luli Gottfried
poured in 30 points, the team has won
its last seven in a row, defeating Eton
Academy, Columbus Torah Academy
and Wyandotte Our Lady of Mount
Carmel.
Leading scorers Gottfried, Zeevi
Reinitz and Aron Srolovitz are averag-
ing double figures. Barry Skoczylas is
the leading rebounder on the team,
and pulled down a game high 15
against Mount Carmel.
Akiva will have a shot at redemption
against Westside Christian, and will
travel to tournaments in Toronto and
New York.

Detroit's teenage athletes will go to
three cities for next summer's Maccabi
Games.
Detroit will send kids to Houston
and Columbus from Aug. 8-13, and to
Cherry Hill, N.J. from Aug. 15-20. On
Jan. 30, the Maccabi Games will be
kicked off locally at the Kahn JCC in
West Bloomfield, where there will be
organized sports, a disc jockey, televi-
sions showing the video from this past
summer's games in Detroit, as well as
tryout information for next summer's
games.
