One of them, Birzeit University in the
West Bank, has its own list of Web sites
at www.birzeit.edu/links/glance.html.
While it includes more individual sites
than Palestine-net does, many of them
are hosted on Birzeit's own Web server.
Businesses have just begun to find
their way onto the Internet, but have
some of the best looking and best
organized sites. They certainly rank
with comparable American sites.
There are several government sites,
which have a tendency to cause confu-
sion. Two sites are listed as "official
Palestinian National Authority Web
sites" www.pna.net , which is the
Ministry of Planning and
International Cooperation site and
www.pna.org , which is under con-
struction but offers links to the former
and other governmental sites.
The PNA sites, as with some of the
sites on the Birzeit University links
page, do have a certain fundamentalist
slant to them. It's seen most notably
on the pna.net page, which has daily
press headlines from the directorate of
external relations & media.
The PNA's planning center, located
at ww-w.oppc.pna.net "is dedicated to
issue studies, surveys and recommen-
dations about various political, eco-
nomic and social topics." But the
opinion section of the page attacks
Israel for a lack of speed in accom-
plishing peace and mocks Israel's
efforts to get a seat on the United
Nations Security Council. ❑

President Clinton and Palestinian
Authority Chairman Yassir Arafat are
planning a meeting to discuss the
Middle East peace process, according
to a senior Palestinian negotiator.
Saeb Erekat said the meeting
would take place in late March or
early April. He added that Palestinian
negotiators would be traveling to
Washington for a Jan. 24 meeting
with U.S. officials.
Separately, Israeli officials delayed the
departure of two flights from the
Palestinian airport in the Gaza Strip.
The officials charged that the
Palestinian Authority was not living up
to mutually agreed upon security
arrangements for the airport's operation.
