Gary — 9:28 a.m.
We leave to deliver our first group of
meals to the residents of the Warren
Plaza Apartments. A warmth comes
over me at the thought of helping the
occupants at this location, as this is a
building I helped to construct in the
early 1980s when I worked with
Holtzman and Silverman
Construction Company.
As we make our rounds we are
greeted at the door by some of the
residents, while others invite us to
bring their meals inside, their physical
conditions leaving them unable to
come to the door.

Those we visit are appreciative and gen-
erous in their good wishes toward us.
We are particularly amused by Ms.
Valeria, who announces to Ms. McNeil,
across the hall and through closed doors,
that we have arrived. We hear Ms.
McNeil excitedly respond, "I got it!" We
laugh and share their excitement.
We are touched by Ms. Campbell,
who ushers us into her tiny apart-
ment. We place her meal on a festive
Christmas table set for one, complete
with candles and the Bible. She
explains she is about to start her daily
devotion.
She means it when she thanks us
and softly says, "God bless you."

We're building a new
neighborhood, one
neighbor at a time.

Terri — 10:55 a.m.
We begin our second round of deliver-
ies after reloading at the Women's
Clubs building.
This next apartment building is a
little brighter than the last. There is a
young guard at the door and residents
in the lobby. One woman is eagerly
awaiting her meal and rushes to her
apartment on the second floor so we
can officially bring it to her.
We are. struck by several incidents
here: the man who approaches us and
asks if there is an extra meal for his
blind neighbor; the regal elderly
woman who ushers us into her
immaculate home and graciously
bestows her thanks; the young man in
his "Sunday best," whose hand reaches
out for the meal while his stare
remains fixed. We realize that he is
blind.
As we leave, we offer the guard the
last remaining meal. He reminds us
warmly that we are doing good things
for people, thanks us and wishes us a
Merry Christmas.
Our hearts are filled with gratitude

as we count our own blessings. We are
anxious to attend Shabbai: Services
this evening to give our thanks.:.!
