Help Others
Celebrate Christmas
A few spots remain for the annual
Jewish Federation Volunteer
Extravaganza on Friday, Dec. 25.
Nearly 40 agencies have requested
help on that day to comfort the elder-
ly, help at a shelter, serve food to the
hungry or perform other tasks. Many
agencies are seeking volunteers to
relieve workers who wish to spend the
holiday with their families.
Starting at 9 a.m. from the Max M.
Fisher Federation Building in
Bloomfield Township, groups of 10 or
more volunteers, directed by a site
coordinator, will head out to work at
each location. The visits will conclude
by 4 p.m.
The Volunteer Extravaganza is a
cooperative venture of the Jewish
Federation's Community Outreach and
Education Department, Young Adult
Division, Women's Campaign and
Education Department, Business and
Professional Women and
Michigan/Israel Connection. Chairing
the event are Jeff Basch, Mark Chessler,
Randi Sakwa and Barb Tunick.
Families and individuals of all ages
are invited. Volunteers will be placed
first-come, first-served. The reserva-
tion deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Or Chadash and the Huntington
Woods Minyan have joined forces in
an unofficial union. A reunion of all
former congregants will occur 9 a.m.
Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Huntington
Woods City Hall.
The members of the combined
group have Rabbi Eliezer Cohen as
rabbi. He offers a variety of classes
each week including: Sunday —
Gemorah class for women in
Huntington Woods at 8 p.m.;
Monday — Halachah class in Oak
Park; Tuesday — weekly Torah por-
tion study in Oak Park; Thursday —
Gemorah class for men in Southfield.
