erlanders also hope to appeal to a
decidedly Jewish audience by hosting
kosher nights on Dec. 6 and 20. Food
will be prepared off-sire under the
supervision of the Greater Detroit
Council of Orthodox Rabbis by
Meyer Cohen, the caterer of Young
Israel Southfield.
The show will take its first road trip
when it is performed at the D. Dan
and Betty Kahn Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield on Feb. 27
to celebrate Purim. (A Congregation
Shaarey Zedek evening was in the
planning stages at press time and

Chapter of
Hadassah has meatless pasta shows on

While the appeal of the show tran-
scends ethnic boundaries, the strength
of each performance ultimately
depends upon the actors' interplay
with the audience, something to which
Henrietta Hermelin looks forward.
Playing the role of Grandma Nun-
zio, Hermelin said the interactive role
is the second in her career, which
began during her college days.
"It is something that could easily
throw an actor because [actors] are
used to having scripted material," she
said. "But actually much of what hap-
pens during the performance is impro-
vised."
She also looks forward to interact-
ing with the rest of the cast, which
includes Jennifer Kahn as Tina, the
bride, and Kyril Ivanov as Tony, the
groom.
Kahn, 23, is busy working up her
character while balancing a part-time
job as a nanny and another part-time
job in a tanning salon.
"This is my first real role," she said.
"I have been thinking about it non-
stop ever since I went to callbacks
after the first audition. One night I
was awake from 2 to 5:30 reading my
script. I really don't sleep anymore."
