critical or judgmental; they're very
respectful.

Brea. "I don't have any hesitation to

The Cost
Of A Dress

ug and Popp order fabrics from
alifornia, New York and China.
Wedding ensembles are priced as a
ackage. A bride pays one 'fee and
eceives a dress, petticoats, headpiece
nd veils. Bridal packages range from
50 to $4,000, with an average of
1,200. Rentals range from $450 to
900. Peggendot recently began
ccepting credit cards.
The veil for the bedecken (where
he groom lifts the extra veil to
ake sure it is the right bride before
he wedding ceremony) is not
ncluded in a bridal package. Krug
nd Popp are adamant that a reli-
us bride cannot purchase a
edecken veil from Peggendott
riginals — all are on loan, only.
The reason? Oftentimes, religious
ewish brides pass bedecken veils from
amily to family, without concern for
hatching the lace to the bridal gown
r headpiece, they say.
"We don't want to be responsible
passing around, and looking yucky,
n a headpiece [that does not
arch]," says Krug. "We design them.

ite is not always white."
"We want to provide the absolute
est," says Popp. "We want to be as
erfect as possible."
It's not uncommon for Orthodox
omen to borrow dresses or rent them
rom chic New York venues. After a
ertain point, Krug and Popp insist
hat the borrowed dresses are too
orn-out. •
"Some people think we're expen-
ive; we're not," insists Popp. "We
end over backwards. If there's really a
eed in the family [we'll help someone
ut]. We've done extra things," like
aking drapes for Paul and Leah
a hn's house and putting them up the
ay before their daughter Sara Aliza's
edding.
Their business is half comprised of
edding commissions, the rest in every-
ay clothing designs. A woman recently
rdered a lounging outfit for nursing a
aby. Says Krug, "We don't do under-
ear — but we've fixed that, too." CI
