he presents a course in music apprecia-
tion for both uninitiated and sophisti-
cated listeners Wednesdays, starting
Nov. 4, for seven weeks.
Julliard-trained, Syme has made
nine solo appearances with the Detroit
Symphony and performed in concerts
in Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center
and major halls in eleven European
countries, Canada and Mexico. He is
known throughout the country for his
live call-in radio request shows.
The series are open to the commu-
nity and will be held at Temple Beth
El. Participants may elect to attend
either the morning series, 10-11:45
a.m. or the evening session, 7-8:45
p.m. They may register as well for the
total series or individual sessions.
The morning series will begin with
"Listening with Confidence: How
Music Is Put Together," Nov. 4.
Following will be sessions on
"Chopin: Poet of the Piano;"
"Chopin: The
Ballades and
Scherzos;" "Liszt:
Sonata in B
Minor;" "The
Music of Love,
Passion and
Romance;" and
"How Performers
Differ and Why:
All About
David Syme
Interpretation."
The final session
will include the topics: "How All
