Customer: "I don't like the looks of
the codfish." Lindy's waiter: "If it's
looks you want, why don't you order
goldfish?" ... Lindy's waiter, "How did
you find the steak, sir?" Groucho
Marx: "Oh, quite by accident. I
moved that piece of tomato and there
it was, underneath." ..: The lonely

Fisher's 666 on Lothrop in the New
Center area was originally a private
bridge club during prohibition days
before Charlie Fisher took over in
1934 ... Owner later, Henrik Jensen,
had been assistant manager of the
Raleigh House restaurant division ...
hiring help for House of Lords and
Piccadilly ... plus at times assisting
caterer Sammy Lieberman.
Don't know which one he was, but
co-owner of the Carlos & Seymour's
Mexican restaurant on W. Nine Mile,
east of Livenois, was Herman Yagoda,
present bossman of McVee's on Tele-
graph.
When Excalibur Restaurant on
Northwestern and Franklin near 12
Mile was owned by Pat Archer, he was Al-
so endeared by the waitresses working
there that they had a special necklace
created for him ... The Excalibur base-
ball team, made up of his waitresses,
was called Archer's Angels ... One of
the area's top chefs, Marty Wilk, was at
Excalibur then ... He had started at the
London Chop House as a 14-year-old
apprentice under then-head chef Pan-
cho Valez Pancho left about four
years later and Marty worked himself
up to being sous chef under Milos
Cihelka ... Today he is owner/chef of
Excalibur Restaurant and Excalibur
Banquet & Conference Center.
