ADL Fights
Anti-Semitism

he Anti-
Defamation
League (ADL),
founded in 1913,
fights anti-Semitism through
programs and services that
counteract hatred, prejudice
and bigotry.
Under the leadership of
the president of the
Michigan Regional Advisory
Board, Michael Horowitz,
Director Donald H. Cohen
and many active lay leaders,
the Michigan office takes
action in a wide variety of
ways using the time-tested
means of exposure and coun-
teraction:
* Confronting Anti-
Semitism, an educational
program for youth and fami-
lies provokes discussion on
this ongoing problem.
Chairs: Norman and Ruth
Beitner.
* Children of the Dream
will bring four Israeli
teenagers of Ethiopian her-
itage to Detroit from Oct. 7-
22, to share their experiences
at schools and other forums
in the Jewish and general
community. Chairs: Fran
Gross Linden and Susan
Langnas Feber.
' The Dream Dialogue
continues to bring a diverse
group of local teenagers
together to socialize and
develop and implement ways
to combat bias in their
schools and community.
Chair: Michael Serling.
* A World Of Difference
Institute is expanding to pre-
sent ADL's anti-bias diversity
training program into more
school districts in the metro
Detroit area and statewide.
Chairs: Sheri Schiff and
Deena Lockman.
* Religious Liberty and
Church/State Issues are an
area of increasing attention.
ADL kicked off the year with
J. Brent Walker, general
counsel of the Baptist Joint
Committee addressing the
community on Sept. 14 at
Temple Shir Shalom. Chair:
Hilary Isakow.
* Combating Hate Crimes
