HMC Lists
Year's Events

T

he Holocaust
Memorial Center
(HMC), America's
first freestanding
Holocaust museum and
memorial, is committed to
quality Holocaust education.
Each year, approximately
4,200 school, religious, and
civic groups tour the muse-
urn to learn the history of
the Holocaust. Attendance
has risen steadily and now
averages about 150,000 per
year.
At least 90 percent of the
HMC's visitors are non-Jews.
The HMC, in fact, provides
more educational program-
ming and serves more non-
Jews than almost any other
Jewish organization in the
country.
Each year the HMC spon-
sors spring and fall lecture
series, teacher seminars, a Yom
Hashoah commemoration,
and an anniversary dinner.
The HMC also offers periodic
trips to the concentration
camps and Israel and special
exhibits.
The HMC's Website at
holocaustcenter.org provides
concise information about the
Holocaust and the center.
U.S. Web Corporation reports`
that from Jan. 1 to July 31,
1998, the HMC Website
attracted 179,761 "hits."
Ongoing is the HMC's
Oral History Program in
which the testimonies of
Holocaust survivors, libera-
tors, rescuers, and eyewitness-
es are taped for research and
historical purposes. This year,
the HMC will begin convert-
ing hundreds of hours of ana-
log (video) oral history tapes
to digital format. We will be
aided in this effort by a sizable
grant.
The HMC will host its
14th anniversary dinner on
Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. at the Westin
Hotel. This dinner event will
honor the Holocaust survivors
living in our community and
their accomplishments. Two
days later, on Nov. 10, the
HMC will commemorate the
60th anniversary of
