contemporary Jewish music performer.
Impressed with her originality,
Cotler encouraged her to record, and
with a $5,000 loan from her parents,
she went to California in 1992 to
make her first CD, Together. The
recording has 11 original English and
Hebrew songs for children, material
already written, and presents the idea
that being Jewish is special.
Her second recording, From

The 12 English and Hebrew songs,
many based on liturgical texts, create a
feeling of warmth and peacefulness.
"I don't have a regular tour sched-
ule," said Silver, who moved to Cali-
fornia in the course of making her
recordings. "I'm constantly going to
different communities, and through-
out the year, I travel between 25 and
,--D35 weekends.
"Sometimes, I'm an artist-in-resi-
dence. I do a Friday night service, a
Saturday night concert and a Sunday
morning class."
Silver, who serves as a cantorial
soloist at a Santa Monica synagogue,
considers her songs as constantly
evolving so she can make musical
comments about new subjects she
considers important.
"The last song I wrote was a love
song," the single singer- songwriter
said. "It was not Jewish. It was what I
was thinking about. I don't special-

Based on the play by Wendy
Kesselman, I Love You, I Love You Not
is the story of Daisy (Danes), a book-
ish teenager who attends a fancy Man-
hattan parochial school.
Struggling against her overbearing
parents, she is caught up in a world of
romantic dreams and intense night-
mares, reliving the concentration
camp horrors of her grandmother and
best friend, played by legendary
French actress Jeanne Moreau.
While her background makes her
feel different from her classmates,
Daisy nevertheless develops a seeming-
ly impossible crush on Ethan Wells
(Jude Law), the most popular boy at
school. When he begins to return
Daisy's affections, she must make a
decision: Does she turn into the light-
hearted girl Ethan seems to want, or
does she remain the same, different
Daisy she always was?

I Love You, I Love You Not (Mira-

max Home Entertainment) is dis-
tributed by Buena Vista Home
Entertainment and is available
through local video stores.
