When friends volunteer together, they can catch u at events
J
like this, right Stacey Klein, Heidi Katzman and Jennifer
Siegel?

David and Stephanie Jacobson, the inspiration and leaders of
JARC's young adult committee.

t was called the JARC Sand
Castle Adventure, but there
was little sand at the Oakland
Grill with which to build mag-
nificent structures. What was abun-
dant, however, at the June 8 fund-
raiser, was support and money,
both of which went to establish a
endowment for the young adult chil-
dren's services to help disabled chil-
dren.
The 175 young adults raised
$50,000 for the endowment. The
money goes toward JARC's new divi-
sion for children with disabilities,
known as the Merle and Shirely
Harris Children's and Family
Division. Last year, JARC (the Jewish
Association for Residential Care)
expanded to provide services for chil-
dren with disabilities, as well as con-
tinuing to help adults with develop-
mental disabilities live as indepen-
dently as they can.
The June 8 fund-raiser attracted
new and long-time JARC volunteers,
mostly in their 30s and 40s. The
night was underwritten by Rock
Financial, Metro-West Appraisal Co.,
and Title Source Inc., and the chair-
people were Ron Elkus and Stephanie
and David Jacobson.
Rena Friedberg, of JARC, explained
that they named the event the Sand
Castle fund-raiser "because we
thought it was interesting sounding,
tied in with the idea of children. The
tag line was 'building a bright future
for children.'" While there was no
sand and certainly no sand castles on
the beautifully-laden tables of food,
they did fill the funky venue with
beach decorations and Caribbean
music in the background.

OK, OK, I'll plant flowers for JARC, says Don Rousseau, at
Dan Gilbert's urging, as Jeff Eisenshtadt looks on.

Caught in the middle of inspiring conversation were Brooke
Schwartz, Richard Chyette, Bruce Schwartz, Susan Chyette
and Jennifer Gilbert.

Smile for the camera, Ron Elkus, Ron Applebaum and
Stephanie Jacobson!
