Maccabi Games
Pools Drawn

Move to
THE TROWBRIDGE
During the Month of June
and We'll Move You For

A random drawing to determine the
tournament pools for the team sport
competitions, Detroit Maccabi
Games, was held on Sunday, June 14,
at the Kahn Jewish
Community
Center.
The
games will be
held in
Detroit
August 16-
23.
For each separate sports tourna-
ment the names of each delegation
were written on a three-by-five card
and drawn from a bowl by Dick
Strauss, a representative of both the
Chicago Jewish Community Center
and the Jewish Community Centers
of North America.
The pools were drawn randomly
except for those tournaments might
have had two Detroit teams playing
in the same pool, and the boys 15-
16-year-old basketball tournament.
The basketball tournament has been
structured so that six of the seven
pools will have two returning medal
winners from one of last summer's
five Maccabi sites.
The drawing also serves as the key
for scheduling the matchups of the
individual games. Most of the tourna-
ments will be round-robin.
Teams with the best records will
advance to the medal rounds and in
some tournaments every team will be
seeded in the medal round.
"We tried to advance as many
teams as possible to the medal
rounds," said Alan Horowitz, the
General Chairman of the Maccabi
Games. "Even those teams that do
not advance to the medal rounds, in
some of the sports, will play in a con-
solation tournament."
