Karmanos Plans
New Cancer Center

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer
Institute's Alexander J. Walt Compre-
hensive Breast Center, nucleus of its

breast evaluation network, will be
housed in a new, expanded facility, adja-
cent to the institute's Wertz Cancer
Center and Harper Hospital on the
main campus of the Detroit Medical
Center.
The Karmanos Institute is affiliated
with the Meyer L. Prentis Comprehen-
sive Cancer Center of Metropolitan
Detroit.
Construction of the $4.5 million,
10,000-square-foot Walt breast center is
expected to be completed early next
year. The new facility, double the size of
the current center, will feature diagnos-
tic capabilities and include more exami-
nation/consultation rooms.
