Families...
Michigan's finest upscale,
yet casual American bistro
Savor the taste that is the
talk of the town
the patron saying her salad was not
Caesar .... That the lettuce was not
romaine, but yellow head lettuce
(which should never be put in any
salad).
The waitress argued that it was
romaine ... That the chef or cook had
been making Caesars for 15 years and
should know what he is doing.
Another waitress took over this
girl's station and said the customer was
right ... It was not romaine lettuce.
Thankfully, the place was not
crowded, but there still were others
who•heard ... I feel bad for the owners
who have to accept help like this ... It
is too bad that restaurateurs must suf-
fer because of incompetent servers ...
And they do because, in most
instances, the customers do not
return.
Hopefully, the server was having a
bad day, but something like this
should never ever happen.

REMEMBERING WHEN ...
Stafford's Restaurant on Linwood and
Glynn Court was noted for its won-
derful Swiss steak and a banana cream
pie that would have given the Cream
of Michigan on Pingree and 12th a
run for popularity.
It was also the place where so many
folks took their first date and started
their first love.
When it moved in 1961, carpeting
at the new place was kept because it
had a big "S" in it ... Since the name
Stafford's was to be used again on
Coolidge and Nine Mile, why change?
The "S" was for Sammy's, owned
by Sammy Lieberman, which was pur-
chased from the gent who went on to
become a nationally known catering
giant at the Raleigh House on Tele-
graph.
Stafford's in Oak Park was operated
by George and Georgia Vatsis and
their son Ted, who recently passed on.
"Many of today's restaurateurs
started as busboys or dishwashers at
Stafford's," says attorney Dennis Vatsis
who, with Ted, ran the Stafford's and
Frisco's restaurants in West Bloom-
field. ❑
