years, Halpern has shown her work in
gallery exhibitions, competitive
exhibits and one-person shows. Her

N.Y., and the J.B. Speed Art Museum
in Louisville, Ky.
"Our workshops [are] for artists
and students 18 years and older,
beginners through experienced
painters at all levels," said Halpern,
who is initiating the Petoskey pro-
L., gram with watercolorist Karin Hugi.
"Petoskey provides a variety of
sights to work from," said Halpern,
who taught art at Indiana State
University, where she received her
master's degree. "There are floral

areas, long docks into the water, gin-
gerbread buildings as well as several
nice galleries to browse."
Each program, whether held in
Petoskey or Birmingham, will explore
composition, color theory, painting
techniques and guidance in selecting
and developing a subject.

"Painting in the Garden" runs 10
a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays in June.
$88 for four sessions, "Painting in
the Great Outdoors" is scheduled
9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays during
July and August. $72. The
Painting Workshop is scheduled
Sept. 14-16, with accommoda-
tions at Stafford's Perry Hotel in
Petoskey. The workshop itself
