Two fledgling congregations start producing their own b'nai mitzvah.

eading the Torah portion
that her Israeli father
taught her, Gal Warshai
became the Ann Arbor
Reconstructionist Havurah's first bat
mitzvah on March 28. The sanctuary
of the Ann Arbor Friends' Meeting
House resounded with the songs and
prayers of proud relatives and many of
the 38 families who belong to the
Reconstructionist congregation.
Four weeks later, in a small Canton
church that was almost filled to capac-
ity, another landmark rite of passage
occurred. David Rose became the first
student in Congregation Bet
Chaverim's religious school to cele-
brate his bar mitzvah.
Founded as small havurot with
