It's A Yom Sameach!

It's "happy" in English and
" sameach" in Hebrew. Or maybe
" sameah." Or "sameyach."
What we want to know is, how
many words can you make out of
it? Please use our version, below, o f
"Happy Birthday, Israel!" (yom =
day; holedet= birth; sameach =
happy) to create words.
If your list is the longest, we'll print
your name in The AppleTree and .
send you a gift certificate to Bor-
ders Books. Please follow these
guidelines:

# 1) Participants must be between
the ages of 8 and 14 (parents may
assist in spelling, but should not sug-
gest words).

#2) All words must be listed in
Webster's Dictionary

#3) Words must comprise three or
more letters. Do not use abbrevia-
tions, proper nouns or foreign
words.

#4) Send your list to: Word
Search, c/a The AppleTree,

MI 48034, NO LATER THAN Fri-
day May 8. Include your name,
address, age, daytime phone, and
complete list of typed words, along
with a total.

#5) Please do not call the office
to see whether you have won. If
you're our grand champion, we will

Make Your Mark

We're looking for talented young
artists (aged 4-14) to draw pictures
of Israel.
We want to see your rendition of
the Kotel, or Tel Aviv, or Hebrew
University, or the desert — or what-
ever you chose.
We'll select one to appear on the
cover of The AppleTree, and we'll
send the winner a gift certificate to
Borders Books.
So, what do you do? Just create
your own, original illustration and
decorate with anything you like
(here's a hint: bright colors work

best). Make certain it arrives at our
office NO LATER than 5 p.m. Fri-
day, May 8.

Include with your drawing:
Your name
Your age
Your address, including city of
residence and zip code
What the illustration shows
Your phone number
The first-place winner, selected by
The Jewish News art department,
will be notified by phone no later
! than May 15.
