Salmonella serotype Marina causes
diarrhea and can lead to serious blood
infections. Parents considering adopt-
ing an iguana or other reptile as a pet
should ask their child's pediatrician
about potential infection risks and
how to avoid them. Veterinarians and
pet store owners also can offer tips on
how to avoid infections associated
with reptiles.

ing too much cargo, according to a
study released by the Coalition for
Excess Weight Risk Education.
Many overweight respondents said
it's difficult to give up beloved high-fat
fare, and many had no qualms about
being somewhat overweight:Appar-
ently, love handles are a small price to
pay to keep enjoying caloric
comestibles.
Regional cuisine and eating habits
account for differences in cities' fat
ratings. Atlantans, for example, are
fond of high-fat Southern comfort
foods. Giant, Texas-size portions are
typically served at Dallas restaurants
and make it difficult for residents to
keep off excess pounds. The variety
and easy accessibility of take out food
means New Yorkers eat out more
often than residents in other cities,
which makes it difficult to control
caloric intake.
Phoenix and San Diego are among
the slimmest in the study. Researchers
suspect the warm climate in these
cities makes it easier for residents to
exercise regularly — as well as wear
fashions that are more flattering on a
svelte frame. But before blaming foul
weather for tipping the scales, remem-
ber that chilly Minneapolis and Den-
ver have the fewest fat residents.
