ongregation Shir Tikvah
raised plenty of rent for their
new building at a recent ben-
efit — the premiere perfor-
mance of the musical Rent. More than
1,600 patrons attended the gala at the
Fisher Theatre. The capital campaign
and building drive raised more than
$1.5 million. Sam and Jean Frankel
were honored for their generous sup-
port to the congregation and the com-
munity.
"We are here to follow a dream east
of Woodward. Your generosity and
faith have helped our dream come
true," said Joe Katz, president of Shir
Tikvah.
When Rabbi Arnie Sleutelberg
addressed the crowd, he thanked all the
generous supporters and also thanked
his colleagues. "Tonight there is a bea-
con of hope. Unity in the midst of
diversity is possible."
There was an extensive list of rab-
binic and cantorial chairmen in the
program book. The community chairs
included Gina and Arthur Horwitz,
Henry and Linda Lee, Abram and
