Sports On

The

very now and again I like to
tell people about some of the
great Web sites available.
There are millions of sites on the
World Wide Web, thousands of
which have to do with Jewish
sports and Jewish athletes.
This month, I'd like to tell you
about some of the better sites out
there.
1. "International Jewish Sports
Hall of Fame"
(http://cyber9.com/ijs/: Not
only can you visit the International
Jewish Sports Hall Of Fame in per-
son, you can visit the Web site.
You'll learn about the Hall of
Fame, and there's a Ikt of elected
members (like former Detroit Tiger
Hank Greenberg and Hall-Of-
! Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax,)
when they were elected (both in
1979_), the country they represent
(USA for both) and their sport
(baseball.) - It also lists winners of
the Pillar of Achievement and of
the Lifetime Achievement Award.
You also can send away for a
free brochure.
2. "Maccabiah Games"
(http://www.maccabiusa.com/):
One of the best Jewish sports sites
out there. It has everything you
could want to know, including
what the games are, the goals,
history and projects in the works.
On the site, you can apply to be
on the 16th U.S. Maccabiah
team. Also on the site is a review

AMENDMENT

of Church and State is Being Done Under Cover

These "book covers" are not what they seem to be. They are part of a troubling trend today
to rename religiously oriented initiatives to make them sound politically appealing and pop-
ular...a trend that poses a real threat to our constitutional guarantees. Proposals such as
shown above call for taxpayer dollars to fund religion in public schools and public life,
effectively destroying the separation of church and state so important to our freedom.
ADL has always been a watchdog in safeguarding the freedoms guaranteed to all our citi-
zens regardless of their religious, ethnic or racial description. It is why we have been con-
stantly active in making the media and state and Federal legislators aware of the recent prac-
tices used by right-wing political groups.
For more than 85 years, ADL has been committed to protecting America's values of plural-
ism and tolerance...to defending diversity and equality for all...to exposing and condemn-
ing hatred and extremism of all kinds. The separation of church and state, especially in our
educational system, is one of our most important commitments. Join us in exposing and
fighting this threat.

of the 15th Maccabiah Games,
where more than 5,000 athletes
from 53 countries competed. In
the review, you can see pictures
taken at the game, results and
members of Team USA. A calen-
dar also is at your disposal where
you can check out what events
are coming up soon.

Action Alert — Frontal Assault on the Constitution

The "Religious Freedom Amendment" has passed the House Judiciary Committee and will
soon be voted on by the full House. Its defeat is a top ADL legislative priority.
• The Bill is unnecessary; religious expression, including in schools, is well protected by
the First Amendment.
• The Bill is divisive; it would pit religious groups against each other for public funds.

3. "American Touch Football In
Israel"
/atfi/): Who knew there was
touch football for Americans in
Israel? Since 1988, this 20-team
league has had players giving

110 percent. This season the
league has been split into two
divisions. The top four teams from
each division will challenge for
the Bonkers Bowl. The bottom four
teams will go after the Jerusalem
Cup. On the Web site you find
pictures of games, the schedule,
scores and standings during the
season.
I have not even begun to scratch
the surface of what the Web has
to offer. There are so many more
sites and so many more interesting
things that it would take years to
discover them all. I hope that you
check out the sites, and if you
have a site you would like me to
review, or if you would like to
drop me a comment or question,
please e-mail me at: TheWave-
