ANNOUNCING

OPENING JUNE 1 1998

"Sonny and Cher were the love
couple of the '70s and their marital
ups and downs were followed by fans
everywhere. 'The Brady Bunch' was an
escape from reality and police shows
like `Kojac,"Columbo,"Starsky and
Hutch' and `Baretta' were appetizing
TV appetites.
"The '70s were fascinating in their
own way and gave birth to many seri-
ous and outrageous things that are still
important today."
23 RESTAURANTS offering
guests samplings of their food and
wine pairings, dancing to Skyline and
Back Street Horns, silent auction, etc.,
will raise funds for the Michigan Culi-
nary Team and Scholarship Fund.
It's the third annual Michigan Culi-
nary Food & Wine Extravaganza, Feb.
24 at Mac & Ray's on North River
Road in Harrison Township.
The restaurants will also be judged,
with scores compiled to determine the
top three.
Last year, Mon Jin Lau, Troy, won
with its Thai chicken with peanut sauce
and rice noodles, paired with 1995
Etude pinot blanc ... Opus One,
Detroit, took second for its seafood
quenelles with lobster champagne
sauce, paired with a 1995 Robert Mon-
davi Napa Valley chardonnay Luigi's
Downtown, Mount Clemens, was third
with Luigi's lamb chops, paired with a
1993 Grgich Hills zinfandel.
More than 800 guests attended each
of the first two big shindigs ... Tickets
are $75 general admission and $125
giving patrons evening-long admission
to the VIP room with open bar, special
hors d'oeuvres and table seating.
SIGN IN THE window says that
Uptown Parthenon will open in
Crosswinds Mall, Orchard Lake Road
and Lone Pine.
GRAND OPENING by Marvin's
Bistro, Middlebelt between Five and
Six Mile, was so crowded that Mary
Welch, owner Susan Anastasiou's
comedian dad, almost ran out of jokes
... But Mary has a bag of 'em from
many years to fall back on.
A lot of folks seeing others from
time past, guys and gals meeting new
faces, mingling with restaurateurs,
show biz folks and sports celebs, etc.
... all marveling at the good and plen-
tiful food put out by Executive Chef
Remy Berdy and Chef Mark Benenati.
PEOPLE ENJOYED the wonder-
ful food and service at Ernest Larco's
grand opening in Orchard Mall,
Orchard Lake Road north of Maple,
so much that they haven't stopped
coming back. O
