Pelavin were immersed in talk about
restaurants and food ... Richard and
Ron also got in their own athletic dis-
cussion ...telling each other about
their golfing elbows.
Little wonder his players have so
much respect for Wolverine Head
Coach Lloyd Carr ... No pretense by
this gent ... Just a regular good guy.
MY ANNUAL visit to help cele-
brate the Chinese New Year was at
Shangri-La on Orchard Lake Road in
West Bloomfield.
The as-usual festive array of unpre-
dictable Chinese dishes were many ...
This one was a 10-course affair that
included mostly entrees ... and more
than enough for everyone to take
home.
The 10 courses, along with various
condiments, came on a large revolv-
ing tray, as folks at the table like Jane
and Steve Raitt selected without hav-
ing to pass the food around.
The entertainment was quite dif-
ferent ... Young lass Kim Murley told
about and played Chinese and Amer-
ican instruments, including the ham-
mered dulcimer she performed with
on the streets of Taiwan during her
year there ... It was fun listening to
her ... especially playing Irish
melodies with a Chinese twist.
RECENT DEGUSTATION Din-
ner at Oakland Grill, Woodward and
14 Mile, made a statement for both
Andretti Wines and Oakland Grill's
fine Executive Chef Louai Sharkas.
Joe Antonini, former chairman of
Kmart, and auto racing legend Mario
Andretti have the new Andretti Wine
Group ... The vino was paired with
Louai's excellent meal that again •
showcased his culinary genius.
NEW CHEF at AlexSandra's Opa
on Five Mile in Livonia is a gent
known to many guys and gals ...
Dimitri "Jimmy" Papatriantafyllou,
former owner of New Hellas for 36
years in Greektown on Monroe.
NOW COMES heart-shaped
bagels dipped in chocolate for Valen-
tine's Day ... concocted by Charlie
Kaye's Bean & Bagel Corporate Chef
Dino Grecu ... Also heart-shaped fat-
free sugar-coated bagels ... Both are
at Charlie's two stores, 12 Mile and
Farmington, and 10 Mile and Hal-

stead.
Heart-shaped chocolate cherry
bread is Breadsmith's offering on
Maple and Lahser, and 14 Mile east
of Middlebelt ... with chocolate-
dipped tart cherries and a bit of
honey. ❑
