The Agency for Jewish Education's
Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish
Studies will continue its educational
exchange 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10,
t Barnes and Noble Booksellers in West
Bloomfield. Rabbi Daniel Nevins of
Adat Shalom will discuss "Torah, Trees
and Tu B'Shevat."
The exchange is a free, bi-monthly
program open to the entire community.

NIRIM

Workshop Set

The NIRIM Professional Enrichment
Program for Jewish Educators, a pro-
gram of the Agency for Jewish
Education, will host a workshop on
techniques for enhancing the classroom,
7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at
Temple Israel. The workshop will be
presented by Frances B. Pearlman, edu-
cational director, Temple Israel.
This workshop is suitable for teachers
of grades two to eight and free of
charge. Educators enrolled in NIRIM
should sign up with their school direc-
tor by Wednesday, Feb. 11. For infor-

JPM Hosts
Seder, Speech

A Tu B'Shevat seder will be held 12:45
p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the Jewish
Community Center in Oak Park, led by
Cantor David Gutman who will be
accompanied by Lillian Zellman.
Reservations are required to ensure
space. There is a charge. Call the JPM,
(248) 967-4030, for more details.
Dr. Piero P Foa, emeritus professor
of physiology Wayne State University
Medical School, will present "A Jew in
Fascist Italy," 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12.
There is no charge.

Shir Tikvah
Fund-Raiser

Congregation Shir Tikvah will hold a
fund-raiser 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Feb.
6, at Barnes & Noble, 2800 Rochester
Road, Rochester Hills. Shir Tikvah will
receive a percentage of the sales.

Fund-Raisers

Ron Elkus and Lynn Medow have
been appointed co-chairs of
Congregation Shir Tikvah's fund-raiser
Wednesday, April 8, at the Fisher
Theatre.
Shir Tikvah will host the Detroit
Premiere of RENT, winner of the
1996 Tony Award for Best Musical
and the Pulitzer Prize. The benefit
performance will honor Sam and Jean
Frankel.
Ticket prices range from $75 to
$2,500. A dairy buffet dinner will be
served prior to the play to those with
tickets beginning at $125.
Both co-chairs have been members
of Congregation Shir Tikvah for more
than five years. Ron is president of the
Shirt Box, a clothing store in
Farmington Hills. He is active in the
community and sits on the boards of
JARC (Jewish Association for
Residential Care) and MJAC
(Michigan Jewish Aids Coalition). He
is a recipient of the of the Heart of
Gold Award.
Lynn has been employed by JARC
for 18 years in many capacities. She is
its administrative consultant. She is a
volunteer for several organizations
including the Birmingham
Community Education School
Neighborhood Committee. She has
recently accepted a position on the
board of Orchards Children's Services.
