n front of a full house at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center last week-
end, storyteller Corinne Stavish and a bunch of puppets put their
own spin on
o "Cinderella."
, ,
The 200 parents and children who came for "Two Tales of Cinderella
first heard Stavish's Jewish version, called "Shmutzie" (Yiddish for dirt).
The story was followed by a puppet rendition of the classic story of
the poor but beautiful:stepsister who finds love with a prince after her
foot fits a glass slipper. PuppetArt, the West Bloomfield-based Russian-
American puppet troupe, performed the show using classical music rather
than words.
"The marionettes made for a great show," said JPM Assistant Director
Leslee Magidson. "It gave a real different experience.
"We would have loved to have had more space to accommodate more
people." Ell
