"YES, THERE IS
LIFE AFTER
BREAST CANCER.
AND THAT'S THE
WHOLE POINT:'

They went on an innocent hike and
the walking did her in ... Sue slipped
on a patch of ice and went down with
a boom, breaking her left arm ... "I'll
stick to running," she says.
THE AWAITED piano bar has
finally been unveiled at Marvin's
Bistro, Middlebelt between Five and
Six Mile in Livonia ... Carl Larsen is
at the keyboard Thursday and Satur-
day evenings; Jim Knights, Wednes-
days and Fridays ... Chef Remy Berdy
weaves his romantic kitchen magic
with a special dessert for Valentine's
Day ... Heart-shaped ice cream with
fresh raspberry sauce and chocolate-
dipped strawberries.

CONEY

GREEK ISLANDS IS NOT
YOUR TYPICAL CONEY ISLAND...

A lot of women are so afraid of
breast cancer they don't want to
hear about it.
And that's what frightens me.
Because those women won't
practice breast self-examination
regularly.
Those women, particularly
those over 35, won't ask their doc-
tor about a mammogram.
Yet that's what's required for
breast cancer to be detected
early. When the cure rate is 90%.
And when there's a good chance
it won't involve the loss of a
breast.
But no matter what it involves,
take it from someone who's been
through it all.
Life is just too wonderful to
give up on. And, as I found out,
you don't have to give up on any
of it. Not work, not play, not even
romance.
Oh, there is one thing, though.
You do have to give up being
afraid to take care of yourself.

"No need to go to Detroit for Greek food. Greek Islands offers everything you'd expect
to find on a Greek menu, but if Greek food isn't your thing, Greek Islands has plenty
of other items to feed you." — Oakland Press, 1995

"Greek Islands Coney Restaurant is on our honor roll of heart healthy restaurants
for menu selections that include low fat food choices." — Dr. Seymour Gordon,

r

Chairman Oakland Heart Health Coalition, 1995

SPECIAL PLANS are being made
by Vince Passalacqua for the 50th
anniversary of his Mario's Italian
restaurant on Second Boulevard ...
The August celebration may roll back
to prices of many years ago ... Maybe
not 50, but a lot of them.
REUNION DEPT. ... 20-year
class of 1978 from Southfield-Lathrup
High has its shindig set for Saturday
evening, Nov. 28, at Glen Oaks
Country Club in Farmington Hills ...
For more info, call Shellie (Parr) Acht-
man, (248) 669-4177 or Wendy
(Mostyn) Zupmore, (248) 626-6507.
GOOD TO HEAR that restaura-
teurs and a health department have
gotten together for both to air con-
cerns on food preparation, some
changes in the food law, etc.
First meeting was recently held by
the Oakland County Food Service
Focus Group.
DON'T YOU BELIEVE it ... The
persistent rumor that Manuel Chavez
has sold Ristorante Di Modesta on
Northwestern Highway, between 12
and 13 Mile.
Fact is that he now divides his time
between two Italian restaurants ... Di
Modesta in Southfield and the one
named after his daughter, Daniela's
Ristorante in Gainesville, Fla., about
100 miles north of Orlando off 1-75.
Manuel is here twice a month dur-
ing the cold weather ... with son
Marco and General Manager Jaye
Cooper, on his team 12 years, helping
run Di Modesta.
