WHO CARES?

F or 4,000years, Jews have come together to form communities to care

for one another. Through good times and bad, the Jewish people has
always found a way to connect members of the community, to be sure

that no one was isolated or left out in the cold, no one went hungry, was

left alone or uncared for. That has been our tradition.

Today, that rich tradition continues. Through a diverse network of
communities spread across North America, known as the UJA Federa-

tion system, Jews of every religious and political orientation convene to
express often divergent opinions—yet, ultimately and together, find
creative ways to fulfill our ages-old obligation to care for each other.

Now more than ever, with the debate on religious "diversity" swirling

around us here and in Israel, we need to convene ourselves for another

kind of caring—to hold together the very fabric of our spiritual and
emotional soul. Nothing is more important to our Jewish future and to

those less fortunate who continue to count on us.

As Jews we share a common history. Let us rededicate ourselves to

find a way to create a common future where all Jews are respected and

every Jew who needs help is cared for.
