died Dec. 30.
She is survived by her son and

and sister-in-law, Abe and Mary
Dworkin of Columbus, Ohio, Leo
Dworkin of Columbus, Ohio; sister
and brother-in-law, Jean and Mitch
Becker of Southfield; grandchildren,
Deborah, Stephanie, Elizabeth. Mrs.
Slobasky was the beloved wife of the
late Samuel Slobasky.

NED SMOKLE,R, 88, of Scottsdale,
Ariz., died Dec. 26. Mr. Smokier was
an attorney and a land developer and
residential builder. Listed in Michigan's
Who's Who, he was an associate general
counsel of the UAW in its formative
years. Mr. Smokier was a charter
member of the National Lawyers
Guild, a fellow of Michigan State Bar,
chaired several state bar committees,
including the Prison Reform
Committee, and a board member of
the Builder's Association of
Metropolitan Detroit.
He is survived by his wife, Teddi
Smokier; daughter, Lynne Master of
Huntington Woods; sons and daugh-
ter-in-law, David Smokier of
Huntington Woods, Peter and
Elizabeth Smokier of Pacific Palisades,
Calif.; Teddi's children, Wendy and
John Blair, Nick Martin; daughter-in-
law, Vicki Martin; grandchildren,
Karen and Gary Courval, Alan and
Beth Silverberg, Margo Mintz, Alexia
Smokier, Gregory and Charlie
Smolder; great-grandson, Max
Courval; sister, Jean Fleisig. Mr.
Smolder was the beloved husband of
the late Ida K. Smokier; loving brother
of the late Bert Smolder, the late

Bernice Miller, the late Helen Rubin,
the late Edith Moss, the late Chester
Smookler, the late Mike Smookler; the
dear father-in-law of the late Eli
Master and Teddi's son, the late Philip
Martin.
Interment at Beth El Memorial

FRANK UTEN, 94, of Windsor, died
Dec. 28. He was the founder and pro-
prietor of Frank's, a tire and wheel
shop. He was a member of the
Ontario Tire and Rubber Association.
He is survived by his son, Nelson
Uten of Windsor; daughters and
sons-in-law, Sharron and Norman
Zamczyk of Farmington Hills,
Darlene and Jeremy Zimmermann of
Branford, Conn.; grandchildren,
Kathy and Dina Zamczyk, Kent and
Tad Zimmermann. He was prede-
ceased by his wives, Rose Uten and
Fanny Uten.
Graveside services were held at
Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery,
Windsor. Contributions may be made
to Kadima, 29431 Southfield, Ste. 1,
Southfield, MI 48076.

HANNAH JEANNE (ZIEGLER)
WALLACE, 93, of Livonia, died Jan.
3. She retired as a draftsman from the
Detroit Edison Company in 1969.
She was an adviser for the Junior
Achievement Program for more than
10 years.
She is survived by her niece, Phyllis
Lewkowicz of Livonia; nephew and
niece, Leon and Susan Ziegler of St.
Clair Shores.
Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Services and
interment were held at B'nai Israel
Memorial Gardens in Novi.
Arrangements by Hebrew
Memorial Chapel.

The obituary for Al Messinger
(Dec. 26) should have listed his
grandchildren, Alisa and Stacy
Bloom, Lacey Messinger and
Noah Krasman.
