Mr. Smokier was an attorney and a land developer and residential builder. Listed in Michigan's Who's Who, he was an associate general counsel of the UAW in its formative years. Mr. Smokier was a charter member of the National Lawyers Guild, a fellow of Michigan State Bar, chaired several state bar committees, including the Prison Reform Committee, and a board member of the Builder's Association of Metropolitan Detroit. He is survived by his wife, Teddi Smokier; daughter, Lynne Master of Huntington Woods; sons and daugh- ter-in-law, David Smokier of Huntington Woods, Peter and Elizabeth Smokier of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Teddi's children, Wendy and John Blair, Nick Martin; daughter-in- law, Vicki Martin; grandchildren, Karen and Gary Courval, Alan and Beth Silverberg, Margo Mintz, Alexia Smokier, Gregory and Charlie Smolder; great-grandson, Max Courval; sister, Jean Fleisig. She retired as a draftsman from the Detroit Edison Company in 1969. She was an adviser for the Junior Achievement Program for more than 10 years.
