make the necessary studio alterations
and, once"the customer can run the
system alone, offer after-sales service.
Initially, international companies
were hesitant to invest in RT-Set's
costly machines — which range in
price from $85,000 for a low-cost sys-
tem to $800,000 for the high-end vir-
tual studio — without first trying
them out. Throughout 1996, there-
fore, RT-Set made a series of agree-
ments whereby it would co-produce
programs by renting out its equip-
ment and services.
One of the first projects was with
CBS in New York to cover the U.S.
presidential elections. Seoul Broad-
casting System (SBS) then used it for
Korea's elections. Both projects were a
success. Indeed, a headline in Asia
Online Magazine declared: "SBS 'wins'
election by using RT-Set's Virtual Stu-
dio."
Other projects included an ambi-
tious children's program for CBS (26
episodes were shot in just eight days),
MTV's American Halloween coverage
and work for Disney.
Disney and SBS are now negotiat-
ing to purchase the system. Other
orders have been received from Egypt,
Taiwan and Russia, and orders are
anticipated from Spain and Jordan.
Nachshon expects to see tens of
orders by the end of this year and
hundreds by the end of 1998. "Peo-
ple now know our product has mar-
keting value. We are receiving lots of
requests for proposals. We aren't
profitable yet, but hope to be by the
end of 1998."

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Diamond
exports to Southeast Asia fell recently
by 30-40 percent, which will trans-
late into a loss of more than $600
million on an annual basis, Tzafrir
Anbar, the diamond controller in the
Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
According to figures the Ministry
of Industry and Trade published,
exports of polished diamonds in
1996 amounted to a gross $5.3 bil-
lion, which is about 25 percent of
the total value of Israeli goods
exported.
Industry sources say that tumbling
currencies, higher interest rates and
slower economic growth in Southeast
Asia and an economic slowdown in
Japan are expected to lead to a sharp
