MIGRAINE BREAKTHROUGH
Method treats underlying cause, not symptoms
Do the following symptoms
describe someone you know?
— chronic headaches for over one
year, usually upon awakening;
— frequent migraine pain;
— sinus and stiff neck symptoms;
— have a normal medical workup.
New research has shown that
patients with the above symptoms
contract their temporal muscles during
sleep with 6 to 20 times the intensity of
non-sufferers, which is now thought to
be the cause of the symptoms.
"We've now developed and
patented a method of suppressing the
causative contractions, thereby
preventing the symptoms, without
using drugs," says Dr. Ron Bonheim,
associate director of the Headache
Prevention Institute in Bloomfield
Hills.
HPI does not charge for their
service unless treatment is successful.

time to travel more, be it on exotic
cruises or to Europe, the Middle East
and Mexico.
They have been visiting Mexico
twice a year, spending a week in
Cancun and a week in Ixtapa. "It's a
very relaxing type of trip versus a
cruise, which is very structured," says
Ilene. "And you can count on the
weather."
In the last several years, they have
enjoyed Caribbean cruises, visits to
Israel, London, Paris and Rome, and
last summer they ventured to Greece,
went on a cruise of the Greek Isles, fol-
lowed by sightseeing in Turkey. and
Egypt.
"It was incredible," says Ilene. "To
see things you've read about and looked
at in pictures since you were small, it's
awesome.
But she notes that this is a lifestyle
change for them, after raising four chil-
dren.
"It would have been impossible
when the kids were small. I could never
have left them for a long time, or gone
so far," she says.
There are wonderful travel opportu-
nities for people of various budgets.
Caribbean cruises can be lots of fun,
and can be had at a variety of price
points, from as low as $3,000 a couple
for a week, with all of the food, and
often the airfare, included, on wonder-
ful cruise lines like Royal Caribbean,
Celebrity and Princess. Many of these
cruises also are introducing South
American locations.
"My motto is, if you can do some-
thing together as husband and wife, do
it. The golden years aren't always so
golden, and you don't always know
what will happen," says Loretta Kalt.
Cruises are a wonderful way to trav-
el, and they aren't limited to the
Caribbean. "Alaskan cruises are incredi-
bly popular, and they're really wonder-
ful," says David Fishman, president of
Cadillac Travel in Southfield. Sailing
out of Vancouver in the summer
months along the Inside Passage, pas-
sengers whale watch, see the glaciers
and the calving of the icebergs, and
observe seals, sea otters, moose and
bear in their natural habitat. Often
travellers extend their trips to Denali
National Park in Alaska and the
Canadian Rockies.
Cruises on Princess, Holland
America and Crystal Cruise Lines can
"
run anywhere from $2,500 to $8,000
and up per person.
Europe is often a destination of
choice for people who have never
the opportunity to visit there before.
Classics like London, Paris and Rome
are consistently popular. A new twist
are European cruises. "They are great
because you get off the ship for the da
you sightsee, you take a tour and then
you get back on the ship and are take
care of," says Kalt. "You don't need to
shlep from city to city, through airpor
and hotels."
Monica Voytek of AAA Travel in
Birmingham says she is booking lots c
summer cruises through Scandinavia
and Russia, where tourists can visit
Copenhagen, Stockholm and St.
Petersburg, among other cities. "There
are more places that are safer and avail
able to travellers," she says. "Many pet
pie are looking for exotic and interest-
ing vacations, to experience things tit,:
never had a chance to before."
Another exciting trip is a safari
cruise to Africa. Renaissance,
Seabourne and Silver Seas are luxury
lines that sail the coast and are affiliate
with companies that take visitors on
tours of the interior. They are luxuri-
ous, unique, and not for the budget-
conscious. "A safari is a once-in-a-lifei
time experience, but it's not a relaxing
trip," notes Fishman. "It is a more
rugged vacation, going on a four-whet
drive vehicle into the jungle, where
there are no paved roads. And then
cruising through the Seychelles Island
is like a fairy tale or an old movie."
The Orient is popular with those
with time and a savings account. Chi
is more accessible to Americans toda
and Hong Kong is still open for busi=
ness — and tourists — as usual. Toky
Osaka, Kyoto, Singapore and Thailan
are other stops on an Oriental itiner
Some travelers choose to combine
their visit with an Oriental cruise. "It
creates a more relaxing vacation, slows
the pace down," says Fishman. "It's a
good way to visit if you are older or
have health problems."
"Another popular travel experienc-el
family trips, where the older generatio
takes their children and grandchildren
on a trip," says Voytek. Popular family'
spots are Walt Disney World, Hawaii
and cruises. "They are usually for an
anniversary, and they want to include
the whole family. El
